IN DETERMINING JOHN CAGE (2012)

Adaptation of Cage's 1959 performance-essay "Indeterminacy" produced for "120 Hours for John Cage," a celebration of Cage's works for radio organized to mark Cage's centennial and curated by Wave Farm/free103point9 and the John Cage Trust.

The piece consists of 10 stories and 10 musical compositions written independently from each other and paired at random. Because the pairing of story and music is determined by chance, it is unlikely that any two versions will be exactly the same. This version was broadcast in September, 2012 on WGXC radio.

Text + Voice: Shonni Enelow
Music: Michael Garofalo
Direction: Josh Hoglund
Concept: Enelow, Garofalo, Hoglund

Latitude/Longitude (Selected Works)

DUSK RADIO (2016)

Latitude/Longitude was Michael Garofalo, Patrick McCarthy, and Jason Labbe.

DUSK RADIO is their final LP.

All songs Garofalo/Labbe/McCarthy. Recorded by Josh Clark at Seaside Lounge and by Latitude/Longitude at the Kaoss Pad, in Brooklyn, NY between 2008-2009. Mixed by Patrick McCarthy at Seaside Lounge. Mastered by Paul Gold.

SOLAR FILTERS/MOTHER EVENING (2007)

Double A-side 7" record released by free103point9 as part of their audio dispatch series (AD031).

SOLAR FILTERS was part of a song cycle about the sun and its influence on Earth's atmosphere. That project got scrapped, but SOLAR FILTERS survived and the shortwave radio textures that open the track (essentially, the sounds of the atmosphere) point to its origins.

MOTHER EVENING began as a live improvisation. The lyrics came from spam email, cobbled together into a sort of collage-poem, incorporating this digital detritus (literally, junk mail) into the song.

The etchings on either side of the vinyl records refer to the lost song cycle and the subject line from a spam email.

Written and Performed by Michael Garofalo and Patrick McCarthy. Recorded at Seaside Lounge in Brooklyn, NY by Patrick McCarthy. Mixed by Patrick McCarthy. Cover art by Michael Shrouds. Imaging by Bryan Zimmerman.
